Protostrator

   Keeper of the imperial stables, according to the Kletorologion of Philotheos (q.v.). He supervised a large staff of grooms and stable managers, as well as officials in charge of chariots and weapons. During the Palaiologan (q.v.) period, the proto-strator was a high military commander responsible for certain ceremonial functions.
